Why Should I Get Baptized?

Did you know the Greek word baptizo means to immerse or dip under water? Immersion symbolizes both the burial of your old self and resurrection of your new self in Christ.

Romans 6, verses 3 and 4, tell us water baptism represents how our old self is buried with Him through baptism in order that, just as Christ was raised, we too are raised up from death into the glory of the Father. We, too, may have new life. Baptism doesn’t make you a believer. It shows you already believe. Baptism does not save you, only your faith in Christ does that. Baptism is like a wedding ring, it’s the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart.

We believe every person who believes in Jesus should be baptized. Through baptism you can share and celebrate a new life in Christ with your Journey family and provide a dramatic testimony to those who are searching for the peace you have found.

We are excited to invite you to sign up for our next church-wide baptism on Sunday, September 29th! If your child is interested in getting baptized, please email Pastor Kevin Harper at

If you are interested in taking the next step in your faith and are thinking about getting baptized, please register online. Also, we encourage and invite you to attend one of the two baptism classes offered:

  • Wednesday, September 25th or Thursday, September 26th at 7 pm at Norman Campus
  • Wednesday, September 25th at 7 pm at SWOKC campus.
