Damien’s Story

My name is Damien Parks and this is my story.

On the Journey Church team I am the High School Pastor but this is only part of my story. My story begins with me begin raised in a broken home. My parents separated at an early age so I found myself spending time moving back and forth between Mom and Dad’s house. That was the norm for me and I thought nothing of it. Eventually my mom moved to the great city of Yukon, Oklahoma and this move became a new chapter in my story.

While living in Yukon I met a friend in junior high and he invited me to go to his church with him. I went and this decision changed my story forever. I was new the church, new to God, and new to the person of Jesus Christ. What happened after going with my friend to church for the first time changed everything. I formed relationships with new friends and over time I made the decision to give my life to Christ as best as I knew how. This decision impacted my story and opened a brand new chapter.

After making this decision there was an older leader in the church that reached out and began to mentor me. This outreach and decision opened a brand new chapter in my story. Jesus Christ and His Church became a central part of my story. I came from a non-churched centered household and making Jesus the center off it all changed everything.

My mentor continued to show me and teach me what it meant to be a follower of Jesus. When I graduated high school and college I knew that being in ministry and reaching out to others would be central to my story. I entered the ministry after college with a heart to share the love of Jesus. My story was impacted and changed forever because one person was willing to invite and another was willing to do life with me. Now this chapter of my life is dedicated to reaching out and helping high school students discover Jesus. For me this chapter is unfolding as a part of the ministry that takes place here at Journey Church. It is an honor to serve this House.

Grace and Peace.
